An illustrated book is being prepared to provide an introduction to outstanding archaeological discoveries in Wales, and a companion to our displays which chart the early history of Wales through the collections. While some objects have featured in exhibitions from their beginnings in the 1890s, the opportunity has been taken to present new information emanating from ongoing studies. Some sections feature recent acquisitions, previously unpublished. The opportunity is being taken to set each artefact group within a wider cultural and historical context, with a short introduction to each period. The aim is to provide a coherent view of the scope of the archaeological collections, through a selection of objects that reflect the varied creativity of each period.
