On-going research will build on work done by Oliver Fairclough since 1989 and is intended to lead to publication of the collection. The initial target is a publication in the Museum's established 'semi-popular' format, perhaps in 2012. This will ideally happen in tandem with on-line publication of selected highlights of the collection and articles submitted to appropriate journals. Ultimately one or more academic collection catalogues will be required. Other key outcomes of the research will be to inform the planning of new applied art galleries, the prioritisation of objects for display, an improved strategy for developing the Museum's collection, and the raising of the Museum's international profile.
