The Fortune Teller

Media: oil on canvas

Mancini trained in Naples and visited Paris in 1875-76 and 1877-78. In 1883 he settled in Rome. With Sargent's help he achieved a considerable reputation in Britain. His figure paintings were influenced by seventeenth-century Old Masters. They include glittering light effects and incorporate thick impasto, sometimes textured with metal foil, string and other materials. This genre piece depicts an old man with a pipe at a table, on which are an ape, a parrot and other animals. It was purchased by Margaret Davies in 1914.

Hi Paula,

There are two books on Mancini in the library of National Museum Cardiff (one by Virgilio Guzzi and the other by Ulrich Hiesinger), but I'm afraid I couldn't find any reference to Il Delito in either of them. I hope you're successful in finding the work's location, and I'm sorry we can't be of more help.

Best wishes,

A great work.
I am traing to find a painting by Mancini named "Il Delito".It depicts a landascape under a storm. The Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis in Porto, Portugal, has a copy done by a portuguese painer, Henrique Pousão, who met Mancini personaly in Italy. I need to find the original work .
Have you any idea about its place?
