Adelina Patti (1843-1919), was born in Madrid and brought up in New York. She made her debut in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor in 1859. She rapidly became one of the most celebrated international opera singers of her day. In 1878 she purchased Craig-y-Nos, a neo-gothic castle north of Swansea, to which she added a private opera house. This portrait of about 1873-75 depicts Madame Patti dressed for skating. The Hungarian artist Karoly Marko was the son of a landscape painter. In 1838 he accompanied his father to Italy and in 1884 he moved to Russia.

I wonder if you could pass on a message to L BARBER

I am giving a talk on the portraits of Madame Patti as part of the celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of her death. I would very much like to see the picture you mention. Perhaps it is related to the picture in Brecknock Musseum of Ncolini catching a salmon.

Dear L. Barber,

Thank you very much for your enquiry. I'm afraid that our curators cannot offer a valuation service for works of art. Your local auction house will be a good place to find out more about your painting.

Best wishes,

I love this picture so much as it is so detailed with the fur and her face looks like it is glowing at her eyes are sparkling. It looks so sofisticated.
