September Morning: Port of Fécamp

BOUDIN, Louis Eugène (1824 - 1898)

September Morning: Port of Fécamp

Date: 1880

Media: oil on canvas

Size: 40.2 x 55.5 cm

Acquired: 1914; Purchase; Pyke Thompson funds

Accession Number: NMW A 2427

The town of Fécamp fills only a narrow section of the canvas. Its rectangular church tower balances against the tall masts of the sailing ships in the harbour. The rest of the painting is devoted to portraying the light and atmospheric effects in the sky and reflecting waters. Similar effects are visible in paintings by Claude Monet who was Boudin’s pupil.

It seems to me that the displayed size of the paintings online is too small, and in addition it is impossible to enlarge them. Shouldn't the size be increased? After all, 2inchesx1.5inches doesn't do much for the appreciation of a work of art
