In 1965 Mark Boyle and his wife Joan Hills began a conceptual 'Journey to the Surface of the Earth' by throwing a dart at a map of the world to randomly select a thousand small square sites. These locations were then visited, and their surface texture and appearance exactly recreated by casting and vertical sampling and transferred to a fibreglass shell. Displayed in a gallery context, these relief panels encourage a greater awareness of ecological issues.
