Media: oil on canvas

Size: 127.0 x 101.5 cm

Acquired: 1934; Purchase

Accession Number: NMW A 3756

Sir Thomas Aubrey (1708-1786) was the fifth baronet of Llantrithyd and Boarstall. This portrait probably dates from around 1760 and has been attributed to Giuseppe Marchi. Aubrey may have been one of the first Welsh patrons of Marchi, who visited Pencerrig in 1768, and was probably working in Swansea around 1770-72.

Very interested to learn more of the Aubrey heritage dating back to Wales.

Having researched Sir Thomas Aubrey 5th Baronet(1708-1786) for many years I would like to comment that he lived between Llantrithyd Place, Llantrithyd, Vale of Glamorgan and his other family seat at Boarstall Manor, Boarstall, Nr Oxford. He also had property in Bath which he used while commuting between his two manor houses.I have recently completed a book on the Aubrey's and their stewards. My ancestor was steward to Sir Thomas Aubrey 5th Baronet and also to his son Sir John Aubrey 6th Bt.
kind regards
