Hi there Rhiannon,

I found this painting fascinating when I first saw it - a piece of forgotten Cardiff! Quite a bit has been written about Blackfriars and Greyfriars. I particularly liked reading these recollections from Cardiffians at the turn of the 19/20th Century - there's only a short mention but it paints a vivid picture of the period in which this painting may have been made: Reminiscences of Old Inhabitants of Cardiff.

I will ask our art department whether they would recommend a resource. If I recall, there are new information boards about Blackfriars' in Bute Park following an excavation, so it might be worth contacting the education officer there for more detailed information.

Do you have any more information on this painting, such as context for the Friary and any connections to the Bute's?
Thank you!
