History of Rhondda Mining by Roy Hamer.

The talk will trace the mining history of the Rhondda back to its origins with Walter Coffin’s first mine explosion at Dinas, Porth. Roy will also talk about his own experiences and give an insight into the work of the Mines Rescue Service and the historical significance of the recently unveiled Miners’ Memorial in Dinas.

Roy, originally from Trehafod and now living in Porth, a former Miner and Mines Rescue Official, has been instrumental in the development and construction of the Miners’ Memorial in Dinas.
