Blackout Poetry at National Museum Cardiff

Blackout Poetry at National Museum Cardiff

Join Amgueddfa Cymru Producer Millie for a fun session making blackout poetry in the National Museum Cardiff galleries.

Blackout poetry is a form of poetry where you can create a brand new story from existing text.

Just take your page of words, select the ones you would like to keep and erase the others, either through crossing them out, colouring in, or drawing.

In this two hour session we will explore the Prabhakar Pachute exhibition in Artes Mundi 9, looking at his imaginary landscapes and figures to inspire our poems.

Before we start, we learn what a blackout poem is and have a go at making one together so everyone feels ready to explore the gallery.

After some self-directed time creating our poems, we will then return to the Clore Discovery Centre to share our poems in a friendly environment. What new stories will you imagine?

  • Meet at Clore Discovery Centre on the day.
  • No materials required, everyone will receive their individual pack of materials which they can take home with them after the session.
