In the Main Hall, 10-4pm:
- Discover how astronomers explore the sky at multiple wavelengths using the Herschel and Planck space telescopes, with Cardiff University.
- See displays from the University of South Wales astronomy group, including images from the Faulkes Telescope Project.
- Find out about local astronomical societies.
- Test your knowledge of space rocks and the first telescopes with our challenging quiz.
- Experience star-gazing through the ages – find out what it was like to look through Galileo and Newton’s telescopes, and how today’s high-tech instruments compare.
- So you think you’ve found a meteorite? Bring it in and our museum scientists will identify it for you.
- Explore the Museum’s meteorite collection, and use our impact simulator to discover the effects of a meteorite hitting your home town.
- Discover our nearest planets on a giant model of the solar system, and find out how much you know about the planets in our fun quiz.
- Look through specialist solar telescopes with Cardiff Astronomical Society, so that you can directly observe the Sun, see sunspots and prominences safely. (Weather permitting.)
