Plate

Nantgarw China Works (1813 - 1822)
PARDOE, Thomas (Thomas Pardoe was employed as a painter at the Cambrian Pottery, Swansea, from about 1795 to 1809. He then worked freelance in Bristol before returning to Wales in the winter of 1820-21 where he decorated the remaining stock of porcelain at the Nantgarw China Works until his death.)

Plate, soft-paste porcelain with a creamy translucency; standing on a tapered foot-rim, slightly rounded spreading sides with a lobed edge moulded with c-scrolls, and ribbon-tied flowers and foliage; centre painted with a scene showing in outline a female figure seated on a donkey with to one side a standing female figure and to the other a standing male figure bearing a selection of agricultural implements, the background to the scene is painted in green, browns and blues and shows a rural landscape with trees and distant hills, dark blue ground border to the rim.
