Don Quixote reading
Artist: DAUMIER, Honoré (1808-1879)
Don Quixote sits reading the chivalric tales which would inspire him to make his own knightly quests. Behind him his housekeeper and a priest look in from the doorway, concerned at his obsessive behaviour. This is just one of the many scenes the artist painted from Cervantes's famous novel. Daumier's work was hugely influential, particularly to Impressionists like Edgar Degas who once owned this painting.
