Eberlein, Johann Friedrich (1695-1749 Went to work at Meissen for Kaendler in 1734.)

Figure emblematic of the Sense of Smell, soft-paste phosphatic porcelain, thickly potted with poor translucency, blue-grey tinge to glaze, pronounced where puddled; standing on a four-footed base, moulded with C-scrolls and pierced, the figure comprises a bare-footed standing woman, in a decolleté flowing robe and cloak, half-turned and leaning on a square pedestal, topped with a vase of flowers around which she extends her left arm; her right arm, holding a posy of flowers, is raised towards her nose; ground and pedestal encrusted with floral bocage. The base enamelled and gilt, the ground and bocage fully painted in polychrome enamels, pedestal marbled, the figure with a yellow headdress, her robe ornamented with purple flowerheads, gilt foliage and red oeil de perdrix on a stippled green ground, and her cloak striped red, purple, yellow and green.
