Portrait of a man, bust length
The identity of this man is unknown, although his cap suggests he was a sculptor. His sensitive expression and the fine moulding of his face and beard show the vitality of Dalou's technique. Alongside Auguste Rodin and Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux he was considered one of the most important French sculptors of the period. As a teacher he inspired many others, in France and Britain.
Terracotta bust of a man with a moustache and beard, head slightly tilted to the left. The man wears a brimless cap and has a narrow length of cloth loosely tied underneath his collared shirt. The bust stands upon an intergral socle.
