Chair
This chair was made for the World Fair Eisteddfod held in Chicago in 1893. The Eisteddfod was invited to Chicago - to an international fair celebrating 400 years of the Columbus landing. The Chicago Eisteddfod was a spectacle of all things Welsh. Around 40,000 people visited the Eisteddfod over a 4-day period, mostly from the cream of Welsh-American society. But it was the bards, musicians and choirs from Wales who swept the board in most of the competitions. The chair was won by Evan Rees (Dyfed) who had already won at least ten chairs and later became Archdruid in 1905 until his death in 1923.
