James Dickson Innes (1887-1914)

STRANG, Ian (1886-1952)

Born in Llanelli, Innes studied at Carmarthen Art School and the Slade School of Art. He exhibited at the New English Art Club from 1907 and was close to Augustus John from 1910 until his death. A Slade contemporary recalled that he 'was of middle height, black haired and thin featured, handsome to many people....there may have been something satanic in his look...Ian Strang painted a good likeness of him'. At the time Innes was already dying of tuberculosis.
