Lower Palaeolithic stone levallois core
A levallois core, unstruck, with a convex ventral surface and flat dorsal surface. It is mostly the dorsal surface that has been worked with just a few removals from the vetral face. Some of the original pebble surface remains on the ventral surface.
Waste material tells us that the Neanderthals made tools at Pontnewydd Cave.
