Caerphilly Castle from the Van
Dating from perhaps the 1740s, this painting is simply a topographical record of place and ownership. It depicts the massive ruins of Caerphilly Castle as seen from the Van, the late sixteenth century manor house of the Lewis family built with stone taken from the castle.
