Painting of a white rose by artist 'E. Johns' with a handwritten card on the back 'Maralyn Minett, Age 10'. The painting was donated to Cliff and Iris Minett of Aberfan in memory of Marylyn, their ten-year-old daughter who was killed in her classroom in Pantglas Junior School, Aberfan on 21 October 1966. Their seven-year-old son, Carl, was also killed. At 9:13 that Friday morning thousands of tonnes of black coal waste from an unstable tip slid down the mountain. It instantly engulfed Pantglas Junior School and parts of the village killing a total of 116 children and 28 adults. After the disaster, artist 'E. Johns' donated a painting of a rose to all the bereaved families as a symbol of love and remembrance to the loved ones they had lost.
