Lougher From Penclawdd
MORRIS, Cedric (1889-1982)
The semi-rural fringes of Swansea in the foreground of the painting contrast starkly with the chimneys and smoke of industrial Wales in the background. It is a generalised depiction of the Llanelli shoreline from Penclawdd. Loughor, in the title, is in fact not visible in the painting. Cedric Morris was born in Sketty, Swansea and would have known the surrounding landscape well.
