Seal impression: Collegiate
Under a trefoiled church-like canopy, the Blessed Virgin, with orb and supporting her Child, seated on a low throne against a background hatched lozengy. To either side, a shield: dext. three garbs, EARLDOM OF CHESTER; sin. two piles, EARLDOM OF HUNTINGDON. In base, a trefoiled college-like canopy upheld by the kneeling figures of the founders thereby directing it to the patronage of the Blessed Virgin: detx. the lady Devorguilla holding a shield: a lion rampant, GALLOWAY; sin. her husband, John Balliol of Barnard Castle, similarly holding a shield: an orle, BALLIOL. Above is a frieze inscribed: DOM' SCOLARIVM BAL'O.
