Morning on the Oise, Auvers
Artist: DAUBIGNY, Charles François (1817-1878)
This painting is a study of light rather than landscape. Daubigny had a specially adapted studio boat called Le Botin, which he would row into the centre of the river. From there he could appreciate the full effect of the sky reflecting on the water. A pioneer in open-air painting, he was a key influence for Impressionists such as Claude Monet.
