Tie

Far East Prisoners of War (FEPOW) tie. Navy with red strip and logo.

Part of a collection of items belonging to Ronald Holder. Ronald Holder was born in Abercynon in 1914. During the Second World War he joined the Royal Signals. Early in the war he was captured in Java, and spent three and a half years as a Prisoner of War in the hands of the Japanese. He was liberated by the Gurkha’s and eventually came back to Wales via the troop ship M.V. Teglelberg.

Dark blue tie made from synthetic fabric; ribbed weave, red stripe consisting of 12 wefts resulting in a 3mm wide stripe. Stripes occur at 3.5cm intervals. Logo is woven in white using supplementary weft floats. The logo depicts a flaming torch surrounded by a wreath. White synthetic label printed in black. with 'F.E.P.O.W.' attached to seam on reverse. Narrow double turn-back machine stitched along all edges; machine stitched down its length. White, synthetic, tabby woven interlining (cut on the bias).
