The Vision

In 2006 we published our Vision to become ‘a world-class museum of learning’. This followed a wide-ranging public consultation with visitors, school groups, experts working in other museums, our Wales and UK partners, local community and interest groups, our supporters and funders, and many others.

You supported the creation of a National Museum of Art, and a National Museum of Natural History at the National Museum Cardiff

In the summer of 2011 we will have completed the transformation of the first floor of the National Museum Cardiff into the National Museum of Art. The ground floor will then develop into the National Museum of Natural History.

You supported plans to develop St Fagans National Museum of History.

St Fagans is being transformed into the home of Welsh history and a year-round visitor attraction with the creation of indoor spaces. Archaeology is also coming to St Fagans, extending the story of Wales and its people from the earliest times through to the present day.

You wanted to become more involved with your national museums.

We have uniquely changed the way in which we engage with the public and our stakeholders to ensure your national museums reflect your views and your experiences. We have highlighted on these pages some of the work our staff carry out, engaging with the people of Wales, and beyond.
