Make & Do

Winter Jar Scene

The snow globe is an emblem of winter and festivity. How about creating your own winter jar scene?

You will need:

  • An empty jar, with a lid
  • A piece of card
  • Scissors
  • Sellotape or glue
  • Materials to decorate your snow globe scene. We used felt pens, paint and tissue paper.

Instructions:

1. Begin by cutting a strip of card, ensuring that it is slightly longer than the circumference of the jar.

2. Fold a crease at the bottom of the card and make approximately 6 snips. This will leave you with a row of tabs.

3. When you have finished decorating the card, fold the tabs backwards. This will create a base to secure your design to the bottom of the jar.

4. Coil your card and seal the edges. Insert the card inside the jar, ensuring that the tabs are flat against the base of the jar. You can use some Sellotape to keep the tabs in place if you wish.

5. We decorated the rest of the jar with tissue paper and paint.

TIP: Place a battery operated light at the bottom of the jar, for a nightlight effect!
