The exhibition will take place in Cardiff between Autumn 2022 to Spring 2023 to coincide with BBC centenary celebrations. It also marks 100 years of broadcasting in Wales which began on 13 February 1923, with the first public radio broadcast from Cardiff.

Museum curators will now be delving into the BBC’s extensive archive and trawling through its collections for images, film clips and objects for this new exhibition. However staff at the museum still want to hear stories and memories from the general public.

Sioned Williams, Principal Curator: Modern History, St Fagans National Museum of History, said, “2022 is the BBC's Centenary, and in the run up to this exhibition, we want to hear from you. What are your BBC highlights? What are the BBC moments that have stayed with you and why? What channels or radio stations do you most enjoy? What are your memories of BBC TV over Christmas?

“As well as stories, we’d like to hear from you if you have any memorabilia; toys from your favourite television shows, stickers, badges, posters, T-shirts. Get in touch and submit photographs, films and memories either by email collecting@museumwales.ac.uk or on social media."

Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales and BBC Cymru Wales have also entered into a new seven-year partnership. Both organisations will work together on developing public programmes which includes the exhibition. They will also look to make their collections and research physically and digitally accessible. Both parties are committed to sharing experiences, helping to support our communities and wellbeing of Wales post COVID-19.

David Anderson, Director General, Amgueddfa Cymru, said, “We’re delighted to establish this important partnership with BBC Wales. The BBC is an institution and there is so much history to BBC Wales and we must tell its story. 100 years on we want the Welsh public to share their memories and objects so we can create a wonderful exhibition and I’m sure it will appeal to different audiences of all ages.”

This dynamic partnership with Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum of Wales will no doubt unearth many treasures from times gone by, evoking memories of programmes past but perhaps more importantly capture a century of innovation inspiring the broadcasters of the future.”

Amgueddfa Cymru is a family of seven museums and a collections centre, which are all free to enter thanks to the support of the Welsh Government. Together, it is home to the nation’s art, history and science collections, which will continue to grow so that they can be used and enjoyed by both present and future generations.

One of its museums, St Fagans National Museum of History which explores the history and culture of Wales, won the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2019.
