Culinary courses, cookalongs and cocktails all on the menu for this year’s Amgueddfa Cymru digital food festival

Amgueddfa Cymru’s second Digital Food Festival will return on 6-12 September 2021.

The digital event, taking place across the Museum’s website and social media channels, replaces the food festival usually held at St Fagans National Museum of History and will feature a host of exciting courses, talks, music events and cookery demos.

Want to improve your skills in the kitchen? There will be a wide range of culinary courses to suit all ages including a patisserie course with Thibault Courtoisier, one of the winners of Bake Off: The Professionals 2020, a family cookalong with Beca Lyne-Pirkis, and a cocktail masterclass with Blasus magazine. Michelin starred chef, Hywel Griffith, will also be hosting an exclusive online cookalong.

An online marketplace will take place on Facebook featuring over 40 Welsh food and drink businesses. They will be showcasing their unique Welsh produce throughout the festival week.

Amgueddfa Cymru have once again partnered with Tafwyl and BBC Horizons to showcase some of Wales’ finest musical talent in an exclusive online gig on Thursday 9 September. Amgueddfa Cymru Producers – young people who work with the Museum to give their voice to various aspects of the organisation’s work– will also be producing a gig on Wednesday 8 September, giving a stage to some of the best emerging acts in the music scene.

A series of talks and panel discussions will run throughout the week and explore the hot topics in the industry including foods of the world and food trends.

Families will be able to download a special resource pack full of fun foodie activities to do at home.

Mared Maggs, Head of Events at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales said:

“We’re building on last year’s successful Digital Food Festival and are excited to present another packed programme of talks, activities, courses and workshops that celebrate amazing Welsh produce and provides a platform for Welsh food and drink businesses to showcase their talents. Whilst we are disappointed not to be able to bring back the live event at St Fagans this year, delivering the festival online means we can reach a wider audience across Wales and beyond. We’re also delighted to welcome back partners Tafwyl and BBC Horizons to bring viewers an exclusive online gig as part of this year’s programme.”

Thibault Courtoisier of Pâtisserie Verteof who will be running a patisserie course as part of the festival said:

“We are excited to be running an exclusive online patisserie bakealong as part of the Digital Food Festival. The course is suitable for beginners and experienced bakers alike. We’re looking forward to sharing our patisserie skills with bakers across Wales and beyond.”

Little Grandma’s Kitchen who will be taking part in the festival’s online marketplace said:

“We are looking forward to taking part in the virtual marketplace again this year. It’s a great way for us to reach out to our existing customers as well as engaging with new audiences.”

The Amgueddfa Cymru food festival is a free event, with some paid ticketed experiences.
