National Museum Cardiff – the perfect place to spend Work Your Proper Hours Day!

This Friday (24 February) is Work Your Proper Hours Day, so why not take a proper lunch hour and spend it at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales’ National Museum Cardiff?

Spending an hour at the museum during your lunchtime can make a real difference to your day. Come and see your favourite painting – or find a new favourite painting. Make time to come and meet our dinosaurs, or call in for a cup of coffee or a bite to eat in our restaurant or coffee shop, both in fantastic surroundings. With free entry, thanks to the support of the Welsh Assembly Government, there’s no excuse for not making time to visit our national collections.

There’s a great exhibition on biodiversity in our main hall, or if you love contemporary art, why not spend some time enjoying the work in the Artes Mundi 2 exhibition – which is a great hit with visitors of all ages. Spend an hour looking at the work of one of the eight artists short-listed for the prize, and with the exhibition on show until 7 May, there’s enough time to come back and see the other artists’ work.

National Museum Cardiff is the permanent home of a wonderful collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, including iconic works like Renoir’s La Parisienne, exhibited at the very first Impressionist exhibition in 1874, three of Monet's Waterlilies series and three of his late views of Venice, as well as splendid examples by Manet, Pissarro, Sisley, Morisot, Degas, Cezanne and Van Gogh.

Remember about our shop in the main hall – the place to find that perfect gift for a special someone. From children’s toys to beautiful books about our art collection, the shop at National Museum Cardiff has it all.

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is the new name for the National Museums & Galleries of Wales, which operates seven national museums across Wales. These are National Museum Cardiff, St Fagans: National History Museum, National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon, Big Pit: National Coal Museum, Blaenafon, National Wool Museum, Dre-fach Felindre, National Slate Museum, Llanberis and the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea.
