Searching for History at the Urdd Eisteddfod

2006-05-24Archaeology will be one of the main themes at Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum Wales's stand at this week's Urdd Eisteddfod at Rhuthin in Denbighshire.
Activities on the stand will be the culmination of joint projects between local schools and Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales itself, and will concentrate on the pupils' perception of archaeology. Visitors to the stand will also have a chance to look for history themselves with a special dig area outside the stand.
Pupils from Ysgol Llanddulas, Ysgol Cefn Meiriadog, Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Ysgol Llandrillo and Ysgol Brynhyfryd have the chance to showcase their work on the stand. Along with their parents, friends and museum staff, they will play a leading role in the development and evolvement of the stand itself throughout the week.
Every day, each school in turn will have its own dedicated time with a professional artist in residence. With the help and experience of the artist, pupils will create their very own impression of archaeology. They will use any objects that are found during the week to create their own artwork, and with the expertise of museum staff, they will also experience the adventure of being a real archaeologist! To tie the whole theme together, poet Iwan Llwyd joins the team on Friday to create an inspiring piece of poetry.
Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum Wales's programme and activities reflects the strong partnership developed with Denbighshire County Council, and this joint working has enabled us to create a full and exciting programme for the whole week.

Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum Wales operates seven national museums across Wales. These are National Museum Cardiff, St Fagans: National History Museum, National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon, Big Pit: National Coal Museum, Blaenafon, National Wool Museum, Dre-fach Felindre, National Slate Museum, Llanberis and the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea.
