Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum Wales's Vision

Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum Wales has held three public meetings to discuss its Vision and aspirations for the next ten years, to become a World-Class Museum of Learning

The themes of these meetings, held at St Fagans: National History Museum and National Museum Cardiff, were natural history, art and history.

The events were an opportunity to hear Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum Wales Director General, Michael Houlihan, introducing the Vision, before the debates were opened up to a panel of experts.

The Museum has been working on its Vision for the past two years, with Michael Houlihan leading the work. Last year, the Museum consulted publicly on the contents of the Vision with visitors, friends, supporters and peer groups. This was an opportunity for those who took part in the consultation to hear how our plans will develop over the next few years.

Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Culture, Welsh Language and Sport, Alun Pugh, spoke at one of the Cardiff debates, and said:

"As the Museum approaches its centenary, it is timely to consider how it will move forward into the next hundred years. I welcome the Vision exercise and the opportunity it has provided for the public to give their views on the future of our treasured national institution." We are holding an event at the National Slate Museum, Llanberis at 2.30 pm on Friday 21 July.  If you would like to be part of the audience, contact Kay Hanson at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales on (029) 2057 3328, or e-mail rsvp@museumwales.ac.uk. Places are very limited, so advance booking is necessary.

Recordings of all the meetings will appear our website by the end of July 2006.
