'Sample' the delights at the National Wool Museum this summer

If you're looking for something to do this summer, why not weave your way to the National Wool Museum at Dre-fach Felindre?

The museum, one of the Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales family, has a series of textile talks and workshops with something to suit everyone.

With The International Guild of Handhooking Rugmakers' conference being held in Wales in October this year, the National Wool Museum has been playing an active role in promoting handhooking rugmaking as part of the run-up to the conference.

On 29 July, textile artist Jane Dorsett will be leading a braided rug workshop at The Search Engine, the National Wool Museum's Hands-on Education Room. Anyone interested in attending the workshop should ring The International Guild of Handhooking Rugmakers on (01239) 711733.

If you're interested in samplers, you're in for a big treat at the museum in August, as celebrated textile artist Susan Smith will be sharing her experiences at a series of events during the month. Events kick off on 12 August with an illustrated talk on Samplers - a Hidden Art at 11.00 am.

Susan Smith will also be leading two sampler workshops or masterclasses at the museum on 18 and 19 August, on designing and making your own samplers.

These are workshops for both novices and those wanting advice on stitchery in progress, please ring Kate Evans at the museum with your level of stitchery/design expertise. These day-long workshops cost £25, which includes lunch and some materials. Booking is essential.

For more details on all these events, please ring the National Wool Museum on (01559) 370929 and ask for Kate Evans.
