Partnership a Great Success for Museum and Library

Working together on the Eisteddfod Maes this year was a great success for Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales and the National Library of Wales.

Over 20,000 people visited the stand during the week, and the joint shop was also a success, with Eisteddfodwyr of all ages buying gifts and cards produced by the two institutions.

Although the Eisteddfod was an opportunity for both organizations to showcase their work and collections, it was also a chance to launch the exciting plans for their centenaries in 2007.

The stand was packed to hear what’s in store at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales and the National Library of Wales.  Michael Houlihan, Director General at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, said:

“Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales has an exciting programme of events and exhibitions in place for our centenary year, including a mixture of new projects developed by the MMuseum itself, and touring exhibitions, such as the Royal Collection’s Leonardo da Vinci exhibition, which looks set to be extremely popular.

“We see the centenary as an opportunity to celebrate the beginning of our second century, and we will be continuing to develop our work in line with our Vision for the future – to create a world class museum of learning.  Work has already started on a wide range of projects at National Museum Cardiff and St Fagans: National History Museum, and some of these exciting projects will be completed during our celebration year.”

The National Library of Wales Librarian, Andrew Green, outlined some of their plans for 2007:

‘A whole season of events has been organized as part of the Library’s centenary celebrations. Our main exhibition will be ‘In This Place’ (a century of the Library and its collections) as well as publications and a television series in both Welsh and English.  The National Library of Wales is one of the great libraries of the world. We’re looking forward to building and developing on the success of the last century as we look forward to the next one hundred years.’

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales and the National Library of Wales will continue to work together during their centenaries.  For more information on Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales’s centenary go to our pages.
