National Museum Cardiff Celebrates Festival of Muslim Cultures

Come to National Museum Cardiff this November for something for all tastes and ages.

We've got two brand new exhibitions – just in time for the half term holidays - so call in to learn more about the Muslim world.  If you're into science and inventions, and you love twiddling with buttons and having a bit of a play around, then 1001 Inventions: Discover the Muslim Heritage in our World, is the exhibition for you.

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales has also launched an exhibition on Muslim cultures in Wales, The Muslim World on Your Doorstep, which uses objects from the national collection and the work of artists in Wales to provide a current and Welsh perspective.  This exhibition is an integral part of the Festival of Mulsim Cultures, which we have been celebrating throughout the year.

We have organised a number of events and activities to coincide with these exhibitions, and whilst most are held in National Museum Cardiff, St Fagans: National History Museum will play host to some activities.  Come to our inteactive gallery, Glan Ely, National Museum Cardiff, to take part in some hands-on activities and learn more about the Muslim world every weekend throughout November.

There's also a series of lunchtime talks.  Starting at 1.05pm, they're all free of charge, but you need to book at the reception desk when you arrive at the museum, as places are limited.

1 November – Michael Tooby, Director of Learning and Programming, Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, introduces The Muslim World on Your Doorstep. 8 November - Venetia Porter, Curator (Middle East & Islamic Collections), British Museum, discusses Contemporary Art from the Middle East. 15 November- Gareth Williams, Curator (Early Medieval Coins), British Museum, looks at Islamic coins of Medieval Britain, 22 November - Dr Abdalla Yassin Mohammed discusses Muslim scientific inventions: Setting the record straight.

We'll also be celebrating the end of Ramadan at the Llwyn yr Eos Farmhouse, St Fagans: National History Museum, with our Eid ul-Fitr activities from 1 – 5 November.  For more details, visit the website, or take a look at our ‘What's On' publication, for up to date details on activites at all our national museums.
