Wanted: Your Plastic

Bring your unused plastic bags to the Urdd National Eisteddfod, Carmarthen

The National Wool Museum is urging people not to get rid of their plastic bags but to bring them to the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Carmarthen next week (28 May - 2 June) to help create a ‘sustainable rug.'

"One way to recycle plastic bags is to weave with them, which is exactly what we'll be demonstrating at our stand at the Eisteddfod this year," said Kate Evans, Education Officer at the National Wool Museum. "Bring your plastic bags along and we'll show you how you can reuse your bags and make something fantastic with them. The ultimate aim is to create a multicoloured rug, which will be exhibited outside our stand (weather pending!)."

Visitors to the stand will also be given the opportunity to create a giant quilt based on a blanket which is on display in the textile gallery at the National Wool Museum. Each participant will make a fabric square with a symbol of ‘their Wales' and if they wish comment on what Wales means to them. These will be sewn together to make the enormous quilt.
