The Rugby World Cup is just around the corner and Swansea’s National Waterfront Museum is getting into the spirit of things.

Next week it kicks off its Scrapheap Challenge with rugby as the theme.

Visitors will be able to make their own model of their favourite sportsperson’s leg that will kick-out when a connected handle is turned. There will also be a competition to see which devise can kick the ball furthest over the try line.

All the models will be made from scrap provided by the play resource centre that would otherwise go to a landfill site.

It’s a full afternoon workshop, daily at 1pm from 20-26 Aug. It’s sponsored by Western Power and facilitated by XL Wales.

“We thought rugby would be a great topic as the world cup is about to start and with Gareth Edwards in our Achievers Gallery it’s something we wanted to tackle,” said a Museum spokeswoman.

The workshops are for children aged six and over and parents are encouraged to join in too.

Entry to all Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales sites is FREE, thanks to the support of the Welsh Assembly Government.
