Free festive fun at the Waterfront

If you’re thinking how to keep the children entertained this Christmas, then think the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea!

The Museum, situated just a five minute walk from the city centre, is the ideal place to visit whether you like the sound of an event or just want to relax and unwind with a cup of coffee.

From 23 Dec to 3 Jan, we’ll be keeping children entertained with a festive Fact-Finders Trail. Those taking part will get the chance to follow the clues and discover fun facts about the Museum.

Then, just after the big day, those between four and 10 years can take part in Sweetie Wrapper Light Catchers (28-31 Dec), a drop-in workshop where they’ll get the chance to make their very own light catcher. The workshop will run from 1 till 4pm.

As well as events, we’ve got plenty of exhibitions for you to come and have a look at. Ghosts in Armour, a photographic exhibition of Whitehead Steelworks in Newport will be on display until the New Year. Down to the last drop: Oil & Llandarcy, which highlights the hundred year history of the UK’s first oil refinery, will be on show until February and, you’ll have the chance to keep track of Team Atlantic Element - Mike and Simon - as they attempt to row 2,500 nautical miles across the mid Atlantic Ocean. We’ll be monitoring their progress during the 65 day race and hopefully display the actual boat in the Museum next year.

But, if you can’t make a visit before Christmas, then don’t worry, there’s plenty going on in the New Year. David Toman, the Director of BP will give a talk on the transformation of the former oil refinery at Llandarcy into a groundbreaking urban village on Sunday 24 January at 2.30pm.

Then, National Storytelling Week takes place on Saturday 30 January where children’s author Mary Medlicott will tell her fascinating tales about ships at sea. This is ideal for those aged between four and 10 years and runs from 12 till 4pm.

So whatever you’re planning to do over the festive season, make sure the National Waterfront Museum is firmly on your list.
