February fun at the Waterfront

No sooner do the Christmas holidays finish, but the kids are off again for February half term!  However, there is lots to keep them entertained at the National Waterfront Museum as it gears up for a fun-packed week of activities and events.

Be prepared to enter the wonderful world of oil from Sunday 14 to Friday 19 February with Petrolefun (11am and 2pm) - a free, family-friendly workshop where you will discover all sorts of interesting facts about oil.

A series of interactive activities will show you how it is produced, its impact on the environment and future energy sustainability. One activity using materials such as a carbonated drink will highlight how oil is harvested and transported for processing.

“We’re delighted to be back at the Museum offering this activity,” said facilitator, Allan Trow. “It’s a great workshop and it’s all about having fun with science in a way that helps people explore and learn about the world around them. There is something to grab everyone's attention, adults as well as children!”

This event also ties into Down to the last drop: Oil & Llandarcy, an exhibition currently on display which explores the hundred year history of the UK’s first oil refinery and its workers’ village.

But the fun does not stop there - visitors will have the chance to Make a Bug Box on Sat 13, Sun 14, Sat 20 and Sun 21 February. From 1 till 4pm, creature lovers will get the opportunity to make their very own bug box with a magnifying window to see the amazing detail on the creatures they collect.

Speaking about the activities over the holiday break, Head of Museum Steph Mastoris said: “From bug box making to learning about oil, there’s something to keep everyone entertained - it’s time to get back to basics and enjoy some free family fun.”
