Press statement relating to industrial action on 18 June 2014

“Industrial action will cause some disruption at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales sites from 12 – 2pm today (Wednesday, 18 June 2014). However, four of the seven museums will remain open during this two hour period and we are doing our utmost to ensure normal services resume throughout the rest of the day. We would advise visitors to check our website for further information before travelling to any of the sites.

“The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) has taken the decision to strike during a period of ongoing discussions regarding the future of additional allowances paid to staff who work weekends and bank holidays (Premium Payments). The timing of this action is of course disappointing, as we are still considering the responses received during the official 45-day consultation period and discussing options with our recognised unions and staff. We must stress that no decisions have yet been taken.

“Despite being faced with a 15% reduction in real terms in our budget, our proposals include increasing the basic pay of the lowest paid staff, introducing the Living Wage and no compulsory redundancies at this time.

“We hope we will be able to reach an agreement to try and avoid any further disruption to our visitors and services.”
