The free event will bring together young carers and their families for a day of fun and games and a chance to explore the Museum’s fascinating collections.

The day will run from 11am until 4pm and feature a series of activities from art, storytelling, face painting, hands on science, a treasure trail and much more including a variety of stands offering advice on a wide range of health and other issues.

Margaret McLaughlin, the Independent Member and Carers Champion for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board who’s worked with National Museum Cardiff to put on the event, encouraged people to come along. She said:  

“Carers play a crucial role in supporting their families often putting the needs of their loved ones ahead of their own and that is particularly true with young carers.

“We are thrilled to work with National Museum Cardiff to open up their collections to a young audience, publicly recognise the tremendous value of what young carers do and give them and their families a fun day out.”

The Saturday event will be the culmination of a week of activities provided for young carers at the museum.

“Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is committed to providing cultural activities for children, young people and families.

“It is vital that young carers and their families get the support they need and days like these are a great way of introducing the Museum and its collections to new groups of young people and families.

“From art to natural history, there's plenty for families and children to enjoy at National Museum Cardiff, whenever you visit and whatever your interests.”

In August, National Museum Cardiff will also be collaborating with Save the Children on its FAST (Families and Schools Together) initiative. On Thursday, 14 August from 11am – 4pm, Save the Children will host activities across the Museum, highlighting the work they do with families.

Admission to National Museum Cardiff is free thanks to the support of the Welsh Government.
