Model Railway Day stops off at the Wool Museum

2014-10-21Model Rail Day will hit the track at the National Wool Museum from 10am-3pm on Saturday 1 November. It will be a chance for visitors to see 20ft layouts of Cilgerran to Cardigan and one of Manorbir, Pembrokeshire.
Carmarthen Modellers Club will have a static display of many interesting models including trains and dioramas and for the children, the Museum will showcase its own hands-on Thomas the Tank and Percy track.
Other activities include themed family crafts, promotional stands featuring corgi cars and matchbox vehicles, as well as the opportunity to discover more about the historical railways located in Cardigan and Cilgerran.
Speaking about the event, Museum Manager Ann Whittall said: “We’re all looking forward to a fun-packed weekend for the whole family to enjoy.
“With such a strong historic connection between the railways and the development of the woollen industry during the late 19th and 20th centuries, it’ll be a great opportunity to celebrate them together at the Musuem.”
As well as coming along to the event, visitors can explore more generally the rich history of the Welsh woollen industry. They will see traditional machinery in full working order and have the chance to try out the ever-popular Woolly Tale, a hands-on trail which explores all aspects of wool creation from carding to spinning to sewing.
