Happy Christmas Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales

£175,000 awarded to the Museum by players of People’s Postcode Lottery

Christmas has come early for Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales thanks to a £175,000 award from players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

With this vital funding, 2015 is going to be a big year of exhibitions and events at National Museum Cardiff.  From I Spy…Nature, a hands-on, family-friendly exhibition allowing visitors to learn how scientists’ observations lead to new discoveries, to a new contemporary ceramics exhibition Fragile, funding from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery will be put to good use in sharing exhibitions and events at National Museum Cardiff with audiences across Wales and the world.

A proportion of the funding will also support the salaries of two apprentice stonemasons at St Fagans National History Museum to work with the Museum’s specialist builders to re-imagine a medieval Princes’ court based on Llys Rhosyr, an archaeological site on Anglesey.

David Anderson, Director General, Amgueddfa Cymru said: “I’d like to thank players of People’s Postcode Lottery for their continued generous support. This funding ensures we can continue to offer a dynamic programme of events, activities and exhibitions at National Museum Wales for all our visitors.

Clare Govier, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery said “I am thrilled that players of People’s Postcode Lottery are supporting the work of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales. The £175,000 will ensure another year of varied and exciting exhibitions and activities for all their visitors to enjoy and participate in”

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales operates seven museums across Wales: National Museum Cardiff, St Fagans National History Museum, National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon, Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenafon, National Wool Museum, Dre-fach Felindre, National Slate Museum, Llanberis and the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea.
