Make a Welsh willow heart for your Valentine

Why not try something different for Valentine’s Day this year and celebrate in Caerleon? The National Roman Legion Museum will be hosting a special Valentine’s Hoops and Hearts Willow Workshop on 14 February, 2-4pm. (£15 per person, book in advance, limited spaces).

This workshop, provided by ‘Out to Learn Willow’is a perfect introduction to the addictive craft of willow weaving. Visitors can learn how to make willow hoops and hearts to use for all sorts of occasions and be able to take away their creations.

Victoria Le Poidevin, Events officer at National Roman Legion Museum, said: “People have been making baskets for thousands of years and some are known from Egypt where they were often made from reeds. There aren’t many surviving examples of baskets because the material they are made from rots away.

However the tradition of making strong, beautiful and useful baskets from natural materials is making a comeback and we’re hoping our visitors come and take the opportunity to participate in a traditional activity whilst love is in the air on Valentine’s Day.”

Entry to the Museum is free, thanks to the support of the Welsh Government.
