Deputy Minster helps celebrate 10th Birthday

The National Waterfront Museum today (Wednesday 14 October) welcomed Ken Skates, Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism as part of its celebrations to mark the tenth birthday.

The Deputy Minister had the opportunity to take a short tour of the site’s 15 themed galleries as well as view two popular exhibitions, Patagonia: Our Journey to the New World and Ten out of Ten – which showcases ten artefacts (one from each year during the last decade) that represent the wide range of the history of Welsh industry and the work of Amgueddfa Cymru’s four industrial sites.

He also had the chance to find out how the Museum is leading the Welsh Government’s Fusion programme in the region, facilitating cultural organisations to work with Communities First teams to provide opportunities to develop confidence, skills and employability. A number of exciting new projects and partnerships are already emerging.

Speaking about the visit, Steph Mastoris, Head of the National Waterfront Museum said: “We were delighted to welcome Deputy Minister Ken Skates to the Museum today. It was a great opportunity to showcase the high quality learning programmes, exhibitions and events that encourage our visitors to come back time and time again.”

Ken Skates, Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism said: “I am delighted to celebrate 10 years of the Waterfront Museum, which has attracted large numbers of people to Swansea during that time.

“In the next 10 years it will play a major role in breaking down barriers to cultural participation, by working more closely with community groups and in offering opportunities for people to enhance their skills and quality of life."
