All About Wool - Made in Wales

International youth film festival Cidwm Cymru:16 Wicked Wales:16 is joining forces with the National Wool Museum and Cambrian Mountain Wool CIC to launch a brand new competition to find talented designers who will be creating the festival film awards out of wool from Wales.

Festival directors Rhiannon Hughes and Jonathan White said: “As this is a truly international film festival where we will be welcoming festival organisers and young filmmakers from 14 other countries, we are keen to show them what is best about Wales. We can be very proud of our wool farmers and the quality of the wool fabric which is produced in Wales. We believe this is the first time that wool from Wales will have been used to make film awards.”

Schools are also getting in on the act. The National Wool Museum located in Dre-fach Felindre will be involving their youth forum along with pupils from Ysgol Y Llys in Prestatyn who will be making a short documentary in Welsh with English subtitles about the Welsh woollen industry. The film will be premiered at the opening of the festival on Wednesday 21 September in Prestatyn.

Speaking about the competition, Head of the National Wool Museum, Ann Whittall said: "It's a great opportunity for up and coming designers to showcase their skills in this creative area of work. We are delighted to be part of the judging process for the competition and look forward to seeing the final designs come to life."

Suzi Parks from Cambrian Mountain Wool CIC said: “We are delighted to be working with Wicked Wales and the National Wool Museum to promote young film-makers and Welsh wool and of course, designer-makers. We will be donating our beautiful Cambrian wool for the making of these trophies and we are very excited to see some wonderful creative designs using our wool tops.”
