An Announcement from the Permanent Secretary, Jon Shortridge, to Welsh Assembly Government staff and to those working for ASPB's

A Message from the Permanent Secretary, Jon Shortridge, to Welsh Assembly Government staff and to those working for Assembly Sponsored Public Bodies

The First Minister, Rhodri Morgan is today making a further plenary statement on the future of Welsh quangos. This follows on from his announcement on July 14 that the Welsh Development Agency, the Wales Tourist Board and ELWa were to be merged with the relevant Departments of the Welsh Assembly Government and takes forward his vision for public services in Wales as set out in 'Making the Connections'.

A copy of today's statement.

The proposals are about improving democratic accountability. As described in 'Making the Connections', we shall also be making the most of opportunities to simplify decision-making, improve collaboration across the public sector and deliver a more efficient service to the people and communities of Wales.

Many of you will notice no change to your current work situation, but for others there will be considerable change.

For those organisations affected in some way by this announcement, there will be many issues which will need to be worked through over the coming months. The Divisions in the Welsh Assembly Government which sponsor these bodies will be getting in touch to set up meetings with managers and unions to discuss next steps.

We will be providing more information on our Public Service Reform website and, for Assembly Government staff, via the Intranet newspage very shortly.
