  • All public programmes, school visits, public and private events are cancelled. Purchased tickets will be fully refunded.

David Anderson, Director General of Amgueddfa Cymru said:

“It was a difficult decision to close all our museums, but the health and wellbeing of our staff, visitors and volunteers has to be our priority at this time.

“Our National Museums are usually safe spaces, used by people of all ages for a range of different purposes. We know that their closure will have an impact on our communities, but unfortunately this is a necessary step in these unprecedented times.

“Whilst our physical sites will be closed, our digital presence will grow and continue to inspire the people of Wales and beyond. Follow our website and social media channels over the coming weeks, as we continue our work as your National Museum.”

We will keep our visitors informed via our website and social media channels and are continually communicating with key stakeholders.

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is a family of seven museums and a collections centre, which are all free to enter thanks to the support of the Welsh Government. Together, it is home to the nation’s art, history, heritage and science collections, which will continue to grow so that they can be used and enjoyed by both present and future generations.

One of its museums, St Fagans National Museum of History which explores the history and culture of Wales, won Art Fund Museum of the Year 2019.

As a registered charity, Amgueddfa Cymru is grateful for all support. The events and exhibitions programme is supported by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
