Amgueddfa Cymru appoints new Director of Business Development

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is pleased to announce the appointment of Nia Elias as the organisation’s new Director of Business Development.  Nia will join Amgueddfa Cymru in April 2021, to help grow the commercial potential of the organisation – one of Amgueddfa Cymru’s main priorities over the coming years.

In her new role, Nia will be responsible for managing and providing strategic direction across Amgueddfa Cymru for fundraising, commercial activity, corporate and business sponsorship, business development and income generation.

Nia brings us a wealth of experience and connections from across the cultural sector having worked at Blood Cancer UK, Wales Millennium Centre, Tate Gallery, Somerset House Trust and Imperial War Museum, London. Nia’s past roles have seen her lead departments across both fundraising and commercial income generation as well as customer experience and volunteer engagement.

A Welsh speaker, originally from Carmarthenshire now living in the Vale of Glamorgan with her family, Nia also sits on the Board of Directors at Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and the Advisory Panel of the Welsh Language Commissioner.

Neil Wicks, Chief Operating Officer, Amgueddfa Cymru said:

“Croeso mawr to the Amgueddfa Cymru team Nia.

“The last 12 months have been extremely challenging for many organisations who depend on commercial income to operate effectively. Amgueddfa Cymru is no exception.

“We are now focusing on supporting our communities post-COVID-19 and looking ahead to hopefully reopening our museums. Growing our commercial potential will enable this work to happen and make sure we can deliver for the people of Wales and beyond.”

Nia Elias said

“It’s a real privilege to join the team at Amgueddfa Cymru. I look forward to working with colleagues within the museum and across Wales and further afield to develop new opportunities and partnerships. I look forward to seeing our work in recovering and growing commercial activity contributing towards everyone in Wales being able to use our museums for learning, creativity and enjoyment.”

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is a family of seven museums and a collections centre, which are all free to enter thanks to the support of the Welsh Government. Together, it is home to the nation’s art, history, heritage and science collections, which will continue to grow so that they can be used and enjoyed by both present and future generations.

One of its museums, St Fagans National Museum of History which explores the history and culture of Wales, won Art Fund Museum of the Year 2019.

As a registered charity, Amgueddfa Cymru is grateful for all support. The events and exhibitions programme is supported by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
