Free Time Travel At National Museums – All Summer

Free entry for all is the message in the National Museums & Galleries of Wales (NMGW) summer marketing campaign this year.

Four years after the Welsh Assembly Government introduced the free entry for all policy, the museums are attracting more visitors than ever before. The summer campaign will be reminding people locally - and nationally - of some of the treasures that can be seen at the six museums across the whole of Wales.

According to NMGW's Director of Communications, Robin Gwyn:

"Our aim this year is to remind people that the museums are excellent places to visit, so we've kept the message very simple - come and see some of Wales' greatest treasures - free of charge."

Alun Pugh, Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Culture, Welsh Language and Sport, added:

"Keeping children entertained during the long summer break is a big task for parents. All six sites of the National Museums and Galleries of Wales offer visitors a taste of a different aspect of Welsh life but they all have one thing in common - free entry, supported by the Welsh Assembly Government - so people can enjoy an interesting and educational day out for nothing!"

With four national museums in south east Wales, the slogans used to promote each one are catchy and attention-grabbing.

'Free Monet' is the message used to promote Cardiff's National Museum & Gallery, home of the fantastic Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art collection. The Museum of Welsh Life is promoted with the slogan 'Free Culture'.

'Free Diamonds' is the message used to attract visitors to Big Pit: National Mining Museum, Blaenafon, the recent winner of the prestigious Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year, and the Roman Legionary Museum in Caerleon promotes 'Free Heroes'.

NMGW is also responsible for the National Woollen Museum, Dre-fach Felindre and the Welsh Slate Museum, Llanberis. The National Waterfront Museum in Swansea opens in October, telling the stories of the industries and peoples of Wales. Entry to all national museums is free, thanks to the support of the Welsh Assembly Government.
