Celts and Creepiness for Half Term and Halloween fun at the Roman Legionary Museum Caerleon

Before the Romans ever set foot in Caerleon the area was guarded by a hill fort full of fierce and warlike Celts. This Half Term, 24–28 October, you can come along to the Museum and find out some more about these people.

Try dressing up as a Celt, or making a model round house. How about a bit of spear practice (on a Roman soldier of course!) or making a thumb pot or necklace as the Celts would have done?

And there's more Celtic chaos on Monday 31 October as the Museum celebrates Halloween with a party from 6–8pm. Small witches and wizards beware — there'll be spooky goings on that night! Try our Dead Roman Treasure Hunt, storytelling, or making a Celtic Wheel of the Year. And to round the evening off there‘s a prize fancy dress competition in the museum Gallery.

“The Halloween Party is great fun,” says Museum Manager Bethan Lewis, “It's brilliant seeing all the children dressed up and trying all the games; and it's a good way for local children to celebrate the occasion in safety.”

Celtic Week is on from the 24–28 October, 11am–4pm each day and costs £1 per child. The Halloween party is on Monday 31 October from 6–8pm and tickets cost £2 per adult and £1 per child. Advanced Tickets Only. Tickets are available from the Museum or please call 01633 423134 for more information. The Roman Legionary Museum is administered by the National Museums & Galleries of Wales (NMGW). Other NMGW sites are the National Museum & Gallery, Cardiff, Museum of Welsh Life, St Fagans, Big Pit: National Mining Museum, Blaenafon — winner of this year's prestigious Gulbenkian Prize — National Woollen Museum, Dre fach Felindre, the Welsh Slate Museum, Llanberis, and the new National Waterfront Museum, Swansea, telling the stories of the peoples, industry and innovation of Wales.

Entry to all NMGW sites is free, thanks to the support of the Welsh Assembly Government.
